Red armchair
03:17
|
|||
Silence falls around this tree
Whispers of what it might be
Fade into the night
Drift far out of sight
You cannot hear them any more
Silence falls around this heart
The excitement that we all felt at the start
Turns to something much more vague
At the turning of each page we used to light up
Now we brace ourselves
Shall we carry you there in your red armchair
You can see for yourself
How many souls are aching
For the dreams upon their shelf
Caught in a whirlpool
Of our own design
Thinking only of the reasons
Forgetting all the rhymes
So go swift, go silent
Let your work carry on
Silence falls around this land
Deeper than you can imagine
Something you don't understand
You say that I'm exaggerating
Say that things will never go so far that way
I hope you're right
Shall we carry you there in your red armchair
You can see for yourself
How many souls are drowning
In ideas of life and health
Caught in a whirlpool
Of our own design
Thinking only of the reasons
Forgetting all the rhymes
So go swift, go silent...
Let your work carry on

Path of diamonds
02:51
|
|||
You know cos you heard it in the wind
You know cos you feel it in your heart
You know cos you sense it all around you
Rushing through the ocean, shining down from the stars
Don’t choose the path of diamonds
It will be the death of you
We all need warmth and comfort
You can find them and stay true
You know when you wake up in the morning
Some folks have been blinded by the light
Each person is standing somewhere different
No one else can tell you if your path is right
Don't choose the path of diamonds...
This earth has seen a million ways of living
Nobody can tell you it is wrong
I'll know when I feel it in my heart
Now's the time to start to sing a different song
Don't choose the path of diamonds...

Longing for the wild
05:30
|
|||
You’re longing for the wild
You’re looking for the child
Who was cast away
For being the way that he was
They don’t speak for you
Just because they don’t give a hoot
About being polite
Doesn’t mean that what they’re teaching is right
They don’t love the wild at all
They’d sooner pave over it all
Than allow just one ray of the unknown
And when the colour of the world seems to fade
They’ll tell you it was never any other way
And aren’t we lucky
We don’t need to rely on the rain
We’ve got screens to take away all of our pain
We don’t need to break our backs any more
Oh longing for the wild
Dreaming of a place you can feel
But cannot see
Oh don’t believe the lies
That are scattered through the sky
The way it is today is not the way it needs to be
This day is new and free as a bud
They don’t hear the call of the rain
They try so hard to turn away from the pain
Turn too far you might not see
The light that it releases
And when the magic of the world seems to fade
They’ll tell you it was never any other way
And aren’t we lucky
We don’t need to rely on the sun
We’ve got screens to provide all of our fun
There's no need to live like savages no more
We will not shout
We will not cry
We will not doubt
We will not sigh
We will not tremble when the cold winds blow
No need to wade through all the mud and all the snow
We are not moved by the moon or by the stars
And we won’t let it be known
That we are longing for the wild...

Little light
03:42
|
|||
Little light, it seems you found a door
Maybe looking for something or just having an explore
Little light, this world is not what people say
We build fortresses of language
But what's living isn't fixed a certain way
Little light, ah but what can I teach you?
You'll probably know far more than I, perhaps you already do
Little one, you light up caverns with your smile
May what you find along the way
Make your journey worth the while
Words can lock together
Like the pieces of a jigsaw
People can have an air of being so very sure
But the world that you've been living in, little light
Is just as real if not more
Little light, it seems you found a door
Maybe looking for something or just having an explore
Little one, your face is lighting up again
I've never felt a love so clear
And I doubt I will again

Moping in the summer sun
04:37
|
|||
Little boy what are you running from
Why do you look so scared
Wondering what's coming down
From the top of the stairs
This doesn't feel like a home should
But it's the one you've got
I guess he doesn't know how crushing this is
I wish there was a way to tell him
While everyone else is out having fun
Your voice dries up in the summer sun
But inside you're screaming:
"I don't know what you want from me
I've toed the line for the last time
And I'm starting to see the truth
There really is no pleasing you"
Little boy who are you crying for
Why do you look so sad
Are you gazing across the sky
Or across the land
Is it a friend you are missing?
Someone to fight and play?
Was it a girl or was it a boy?
I guess it doesn't matter
While everyone else is out having fun
I see you moping in the summer sun
But inside you're raging:
"I don't know what you want from me
I've kept in line for the last time
And I'm starting to see the truth
There really is no pleasing you"
Little boy what are you looking at
Why do you seem so scared
Searching for movements in his eyes
This doesn't feel like a home should
But it's the one you've got
I guess he doesn't know how chilling this is
If you unfreeze it now it's gonna hurt a lot
While everyone else is out having fun
You're voice dries up in the summer sun
But inside you're screaming:
"I don't know what you want from me
I've toed the line for the last time
And I'm starting to see the truth
There really is no pleasing you"

Younger brother
05:47
|
|||
Is it any wonder
When you think about the way we treat this earth
Disconnected from the knowledge of what it’s worth
That we don’t know how to stop or to begin
Is it any wonder
When we’re cut off from the night and from the day
That we don’t know how to rest or how to play
As without so within
Comfort and convenience rule
Everything is nothing but a tool
I can’t feel the life that flows
Through the hills and through my own veins
This loneliness of the spirit
Cuts through everything like an icy wind
And I know that we are missing something
In spite of all we’ve gained
But change is coming now one way or another
One way or another there’s a change
Change it is coming now over the horizon
There is no way this world can stay the same
Sometimes I wonder if we’re just children
Trying to find our way
Sometimes I wonder if we will find
Our way home some day
Oh younger brother
Won't you come on home
We can pretend
That nothing’s happening as the cracks begin to grow
Push away what deep inside we start to know
And keep on shuffling all these blocks about
But in the end
We are creatures of consciousness and light
If we don’t know that then how can we put this right?
As within so without
One way or another
As without so within
And the things you cannot measure
They change everything
One way or another
As within so without
This world is full to bursting with confusion
But that’s one thing I don’t doubt
Change is coming now one way or another
One way or another there’s a change
Change it is coming now over the horizon
There is no way this world can stay the same
Sometimes I wonder if we’re still children
Trying to find our dreams
Since we left our home and our family
We've been searching for something it seems
Oh younger brother
Won't you come on home

Arms of the land
03:54
|
|||
Behind this laughter you'll find fear
Behind this smile you'll find sadness
How long will worlds we love be here
How much space is there for gladness
My mind will not cease from roaming
Nor shall my heart sleep in my hand
Until wild roses grow through our cities
And we are resting
Back in the arms of the land
I'm not saying we should go back
And make a copy of the past
The winds of change will always blow
No way of life will always last
Regain the wisdom that has been swept away
Learn from the old ways and the new
Let the forest and the ocean breathe again
And you might find that our lungs breathe easier too
My mind will not cease from roaming
Nor shall my heart sleep in my hand
Until wild roses grow through our cities
And we are resting
Safe in the arms of the land
Let go of all this fruitless toil
Admit we've lost as well as gained
Put your hands into the soil
And you'll know why in times gone by they thanked the rain
My mind will not cease from roaming
Nor shall my heart sleep in my hand
Until wild roses grow through our cities
And we are resting
Deep in the arms of the land

Stand in the rain
03:26
|
|||
Every word that you say
Knowing it will cause pain
Just takes you further away
From the peace that you're seeking
Every truth that you twist
And shroud in a poisonous mist
Just adds to the dismal list
Of half truths that you're speaking
But if you stand in the rain
For a week or a month or a year
Will this bottomless pain, this crippling fear, leave you?
And if you follow your path
Without trying to see where it leads
Will these seeds in your hand take root in this land
And grow into trees?
One day you have to peel off all this dust
To look the world in the face and trust
Truth cannot be bought or sold
So stop these stupid games, they're getting old
Every word that I say
Without care in my heart
Just pulls me further apart
From the connection I long for
Just another fright
Sailing through the night
Just another fruitless fight
To write a song for
But if I stand in the rain
For a week or a month or a year
Will this bottomless pain, this crippling fear, leave me?
And if I follow my path
Without trying to see where it leads
Will these seeds in my hand take root in this land
And grow into trees?
Nobody needs our petty obsessions
To add to the list of their possessions
It only weighs upon the soul
So let's stop these stupid games, they're getting old

Other side of the sky
03:14
|
|||
The rain drops down through an endless sky
The cows come down and go in for the night
The mist so thick I'm surprised that I can breathe
Sometimes it seems these rocky paths go on forever
Traipsing over this ground, aching relentlessly
Raking over the past has its place I believe
And I know there's something on the other side of your eyes
And I'll see you there on the other side of the sky
As I look up I see a thousand drops of rain
Fall to touch a thousand thirsty lips again
Each one silently mouthing
Some unspeakable pain that they can't let go
Then they collect into a river of tears
A waterfall to wash away your fears
Gratefully you leave behind
30 years of sorrow
And I know there's something on the other side of your eyes
And I'll see you there on the other side of the sky

Wind road
05:11
|
|||
Wind wind road
I don’t want to see what your bends hide
I will go by the forest road
Travelling by night
And if a castle on the hill should rise up
I will not go there
Will this journey never end
Will I always have you as a friend
Wind wind road
No one ever will know all things
That’s why I keep on looking
For another way to begin
So come on help me find out
Search with me, you cannot stop me searching
Will this journey never end
Will I always have you as a friend
I saw a light shining far across the sea
I heard a wing beating slowly on the wind
The night was dark
But I saw a spark
Shining far across the sea
Now that I know that I don’t know
I will go on my way again
Now that I know that you’re still breathing
I will go on my way again
Into the night
Wind wind road…
I saw somebody climbing slowly up the hill
Dark was the night but you carried on going
Yeah the night was dark
But I saw a spark
Moving slowly up the hill
Now that I know that I don’t know
I will go on my way again
Now that I know that you’re still breathing
I will go on my way again
Can you feel it?
Some strange tingle is filling up the night
And all these colours echo round the sky
I never thought this world could be transformed
Until it was
You showed me a world as well
